About Us
Our club currently has about 25 members. Some have been members for many years and others are newer. We have varied interests some of which include floral design, container gardening, rain gardens, gardening to attract butterflies and birds, our environment, beautifying the community and educating the public. These are some of the topics covered in our monthly programs held prior to our business meeting and usually presented by guest speakers. After our business meeting we gather together to share refreshments and socialize. Our workshops offer demonstrations on floral design by professionals as well as club members. We are proud of the gardens we plant and maintain at the Veteran's Monument and Public Library on Main Street in Flemington. The seasonal decorations we provide at the bridge on Mine Street add beauty to our community.
Our main fundraiser is the annual sale of pecans each fall. With the hard work and dedication of the Ways and Means Committee, chaired by Gerda Bodnar and Cindy Dix, and the help of the club members this has been a very successful fundraiser that has helped support our civic projects throughout the community. This past year we sold approximately 240 bags of nuts and we thank the community for its support. We also sell Atlas 360 garden gloves. This fundraiser is year round and anyone is welcome to purchase the gloves at any time.
Our History
The Hunterdon Garden Guild was organized in March 1950 as the Home Gardeners Club with 5 members. Betty Harvey served as the first President. In 1951 the first flower show was held at the home of Luella Allegar. The first green show was in 1952 and was held at the Flemington Baptist Church. In 2004, the Flemington Garden Guild joined the Garden Club of New Jersey, thus affiliating itself with the garden clubs throughout the State of New Jersey.
